Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about laser tag, TRUTNEE sections, arenas, manufacturers, events and club business. Updated 2026.

  • What is TRUTNEE?

TRUTNEE is an independent laser tag portal (infrared / laser combat sport) online since the 2000s. trutnee.com covers encyclopedia articles, manufacturer catalogs, arena listings, events, news, media reports and player tips. Russian version: trutnee.ru.

  • What is laser tag and how is it different from paintball?

Laser tag is a team game where players tag opponents with infrared or laser beams — no paintballs and no physical hits. Players wear sensors (vest, headband, helmet) and use electronic taggers. Read more in History of Laser Tag and encyclopedia sections.

  • Indoor vs outdoor laser tag — what is the difference?

Indoor games run in a maze arena: short rounds, effects, lobby stats. Outdoor games use fields or forests: tactical scenarios, radios, large teams — e.g. the May Maneuvers festival. See Player Tips for guides.

  • How do I find a club or arena?

Open Where to play, pick a country and city — each listing shows address, gear type, contacts and website. European and African listings are available on TRUTNEE COM.

  • Which manufacturers are listed on TRUTNEE?

The manufacturer encyclopedia includes LaserWar, Cybertag, Alphatag, Battle Company, iCOMBAT, NETRONIC and many more brands with history and contacts.

  • Where are game rules and regulations?

General rules live under the encyclopedia. For LASERWAR outdoor gear see adapted rules in the blog and manufacturer docs. Historical Q-Zar tournament rules are archived on TRUTNEE RU.

  • Where can I see championships and tournaments?

See Championships (where available) and championship history articles on TRUTNEE RU. The Events calendar lists major industry dates.

  • What are the May Maneuvers?

May Maneuvers is the largest outdoor laser tag festival in the CIS (LASERWAR), with teams from many regions. TRUTNEE publishes reports — see the May Maneuvers page on TRUTNEE RU.

  • Where are tips for beginners and experienced players?

Player Tips includes classic articles and 2024–2026 guides such as 10 outdoor field rules and arena laser tag for beginners.

  • Where are news and media reports?

Industry news: News. Press coverage: Laser Tag in Mass Media — trade shows, school programs, regional clubs and international stories.

  • Do I need to register on the site?

Most content is public. Registration is required for comments and the profile area. See our Privacy Policy for data processing.

  • Where is encyclopedia content: dictionary, facts, brands?

Under Encyclopedia: terminology, facts & records, Laser Tag and Q-Zar brand histories, MILES system and more (full set on TRUTNEE RU).

  • Is there equipment for sale or downloads for club owners?

Yes — under Business: pre-owned equipment, downloads and equipment reviews where published.

  • Which laser tag system should I choose for a new arena?

There is no single best brand: family FEC, sport indoor, outdoor tactical and resort formats need different gear (LaserWar, Cybertag, Q-Zar, etc.). Define your audience and venue, then compare manufacturers and used kits.

  • How many player units should I buy?

For most indoor arenas a 20-vest kit is the usual sweet spot between capex and throughput. Smaller kits reduce revenue per session; larger kits need bigger mazes and higher upfront cost.

  • How much does it cost to open a laser tag arena?

A full indoor venue with maze often starts around USD 75k–200k (new or refurbished gear, build-out, IT). Final numbers depend on city rent, brand and effects. Import duties and VAT apply when shipping internationally.

  • What profit can an arena generate?

Highly location-dependent. Industry estimates often cite roughly USD 1,500–6,000/month net for a typical site, with payback around 1–1.5 years. Large outdoor venues with add-on services can exceed that.

  • Is a small city viable for a laser tag club?

Yes with strong marketing and fewer entertainment options: lower rent and ads, less competition. The downside is a smaller core of regular players. Western benchmarks mention 200–400k population, but successful CIS clubs exist in smaller towns too.

  • What maintenance does laser tag gear need?

Year one: minor fixes (straps, wires, emitter lenses). Year two+: battery replacement; later, board repairs. Reliability varies by platform (LaserWar gen 8, Cybertag, etc.) — check manufacturer warranty.

  • How large should an indoor maze be?

For a 20-gun kit, plan about 300–400 m² of play area. A 10-gun setup can work from ~140–185 m². Outdoor sites prioritize safe terrain and cover over square meters.
